Bella picks a tree

Standard

I’m a tad bit late in posting these, but better late than never!  Bella had a pretty great time picking out our Christmas tree.

I’m not sure what Bella thinks about all these plastic yard figurines.

These are supposed to make us feel “merry”??

YIKES!!

And of course, we found some little special trees, just for Bella.

if I want to see my husband on sundays…

Standard

Patrick’s favorite thing in life, with the exception of his family, is football.  Specifically, the Steelers.  In fact, it’s a good thing we’re not having a boy because I’m pretty sure he’d want to name him Steeler.

I’m completely serious.

As you can see, he’s had Bella in Steeler gear since the very beginning…

So during football season, we’ve all learned to make a lot of compromises.  Patrick doesn’t watch nearly as much football as he did as a single man.  And if we want some quality family time on Sundays, we head to Patrick’s mecca: Buffalo Wild Wings.

Bella had on her Steelers t-shirt, but in true game-time fashion, she decided she couldn’t leave the house without her fairy princess costume on top.

Touchdown!

Such joy on my hubbie’s face.  Bella seems to have lost her enthusiasm.

Thank God for wifi.

And just to prove I was there…

This is my game face.  Pun intended.  Counting down the days until football season is O-V-E-R.

fashionista or fashion victim

Standard

New York Daily News recently ran an article, “Fashion Overkill, When Stars Wear a Trend to Death.”  Evidently, folks are tired of Kim Kardashian and her one-armed cocktail dresses.

Now, Bella isn’t allowed to watch the Kardashians.  (I have to sneak and watch them when she’s asleep.)  Nonetheless, she’s managed to channel her inner Kim Kardashian, and has embraced this one-armed look.

But wait, there’s more….

Is she working it, or what?!?!

Yes, 3 days in a row, I’ve looked up to find Bella sporting this new “signature look.”

Do I love it?  Of course!

My budding fashionista…mama is so proud.

how NOT to get a bird out of your house

Standard

A few mornings ago, I woke up to find a bird on our screened-in porch.  Now let me be clear, birds are God’s beautiful creatures, but they freak me out up close!  Patrick had already gone to work so I tried my best to get it out…(meaning I opened the door and threw a french fry by the opening, hoping the bird would sense the food, and thus, the exit.)

No such luck.

When I got out of the shower, 3 MORE BIRDS had flown in!!  I managed to capture 2 of the culprits.

Clearly I wasn’t going out there anytime soon.  By the time Patrick got home, it was dark out, so we just hoped that they’d be gone by morning.

Again, no such luck.

Patrick isn’t exactly a fan of birds either, but I guess this comes along with being the man of the house.  Besides, at this point, it was Man vs. Bird.

***Just an observation…evidently before you go off on a bird capturing mission, you need to strap your shoes on tight and put a hood on your head.  You must also be armed with an umbrella and a towel.

Gotta love that look of accomplishment on his face.

new perspective on abundance

Standard

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I use the word “blessing” a lot, but it truly is a blessing to be able to share a special day with family and friends, eat abundantly, be in a warm house, watch football (or at least watch your husband watch football…), play on the iPad, go back for seconds….I could go on and on.

But what if you had none of this?

Yesterday on a last minute trip to the grocery store, I was just looking around in amazement.

Fresh veggies and fruits….

Aisles and aisles of everything else…

SO MUCH FOOD.  Right at my disposal.

No hunting or gathering.  No sowing or harvesting.  No bartering with my neighbor.  No hoping a rescue plane will drop grains on my village.  No searching for clean water.  No physical labor.

It’s just there.  On a shelf.  Waiting for me to put it in my cart.

So the next time you go to the grocery store, or the fridge, or the kitchen cabinet, just a gentle reminder of how blessed we are and how meaningful it is to give a little prayer of gratitude.

And speaking of gratitude…

the pacifier has GOT to go (…i think?)

This is Bobby.

He’s Bella’s BFF, and if we lose him, we’re toast.  We have no idea why he’s named Bobby.  She just started calling him that, so we went with it.

I probably shouldn’t be OVERLY worried, since Bella won’t be 2 until March, but I have to admit it’s kind of embarrassing to walk around with Bobby plugging her up, especially since she talks so much, people think she’s older than what she is.

Hubby says it makes her happy and don’t worry about it.  However, I really don’t want all the beautiful pics from her childhood to have Bobby in them!

As you can see here…

And here…

And here…

And — ok you get the point!

So yesterday, I took a stance.  Bobby will only be used at nap/bedtime now.  She’s been asking for him, and I keep telling her, he’s in her bed, waiting for her to go to sleep.  I feel pseudo-bad telling this fib, knowing good and well I’ve got an emergency one hidden on me, but so far, no major meltdowns.  This is Day 2…stay tuned.
